HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Oglethorpe freshman Elizabeth Kim is set to start her week at the NCAA Division III Championship Tuesday afternoon in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., at the Mission Inn Resort and Club. The event will be co-hosted by Oglethorpe University and the Central Florida Sports Commission.
Kim is the third Stormy Petrel to ever qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship field, and this is the fourth time that a member of the Stormy Petrels has qualified. Julia Gates qualified twice in a row in 2007-08 and Katie Dale joined Gates at the 2008 event. Gates had the highest-ever finish by an Oglethorpe women's golfer at the event when she finished 13th at the 2008 event in Waverly, Iowa.
Kim is currently the 10th-ranked individual golfer in Division III. She's fresh off her SAA Women's Golfer and Newcomer of the Year awards for her performance during the year and at the SAA Championship late last month, where she finished second after shooting a final-round 69. She earned her first career individual medal at the Callaway Women's Collegiate in early April.
Kim's first round of the four-day event gets started at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Fans can follow along with the action by clicking here.
