  • Seventy-Seven Stormy Petrels Earn Spot on Spring Semester Dean's List

    The Oglethorpe athletic department saw 77 varsity student-athletes named to the university's spring semester Dean's Academic Honors List this week. Students who earned a spot on the spring Dean's List earned a 3.5 GPA over the course of the semester while accruing 12 or more credit hours. The 77 student-athletes joined a total of 356 students overall to earn a spot on the spring Dean's List.
  • Eighty-Eight Stormy Petrels Named to 2018 SAA Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll

    The Oglethorpe athletic department saw 88 student-athletes named to the Southern Athletic Association 2018 Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll Monday.
  • Graduation Day for Numerous Oglethorpe Student-Athletes

    Saturday served as Graduation Day for Oglethorpe University, with a large number of Oglethorpe student-athletes receiving their diplomas on the school's academic quad on Saturday morning.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2017-18 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Sixth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the university's Turner Lynch Campus Center. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2017-18 athletic year as a whole.
  • Czaplinski, Mapps-Whitmore Named to Women's Lacrosse All-SAA Second Team

    Sophomore midfielder Jill Czaplinski and sophomore defender Dreshona Mapps-Whitmore of the Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team were both named to the All-SAA Second Team Wednesday by the league's coaches. It marked the second consecutive All-SAA accolade for each of them, as they both earned All-SAA Honorable Mention in 2017.
  • Brittney Hughes Officially Named Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse Program

    The Oglethorpe athletic department is pleased to announce the hiring of Brittney Hughes as its full-time women’s lacrosse head coach, effective immediately. Hughes served as the head coach on an interim basis during the 2018 season, and becomes the fourth full-time head coach in the program's history.
  • Women's Lacrosse Falls to Hendrix in Final Game of Season

    In the final game of the season, the Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team challenged the Hendrix Warriors on Saturday afternoon in an SAA matchup at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. The Petrels were down 9-2 at half, but they fought hard to tie the game up at 12-12 with just under 10 minutes left in the game. The two teams battled it out into the final minutes, where the Warriors scored five straight goals and swung the contest in their favor. The late game run allowed the Warriors to come away with a 17-13 victory.
  • Rhodes Proves Too Much for Women's Lacrosse in 24-3 Defeat

    On Sunday afternoon, the Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, to challenge SAA opponent Rhodes. The Stormy Petrels found themselves down 16-0 at halftime, but they continued battling the homestanding Lynx. The Petrels managed to score three goals in the second half while only giving up eight goals to the Lynx. Nevertheless, the Petrels lost 24-3, falling to 3-8 on the season and 0-5 in the conference.
  • Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest to Birmingham-Southern

    The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team traveled to Alabama to take on Birmingham-Southern in an SAA matchup on Saturday. The Stormy Petrels fell to the homestanding Panthers 19-1, however, dropping them to 3-7 on the season overall and 0-4 in SAA play.
  • Women's Lacrosse Falls to LaGrange, 20-8

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell to the homestanding LaGrange Panthers Wednesday night, 20-8. The defeat dropped them to 3-6 on the season overall headed into their remaining SAA schedule.
  • Jordan Chandler Named SAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

    Oglethorpe sophomore goalie Jordan Chandler has been named the SAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week by the league office for her effort in the Stormy Petrels' 14-0 shutout victory over Huntingdon on Saturday.
  • Women's Lacrosse Shuts Out Huntingdon, 14-0

    On Saturday afternoon, the Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team hosted Huntingdon and had a magnificent showing, beating the Hawks 14-0 to record the first shutout in program history. The Stormy Petrels built a 9-goal lead by halftime and never looked back, improving to 3-5 on the season and recording their third win in their last four games.
  • Madison Goss Takes SAA Women's Lacrosse Weekly Offensive Honors

    Junior midfielder Madison Goss of the Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team was named the SAA Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week by the league office on Monday for her efforts in her team's 26-4 victory over Brenau on Tuesday. It marked the first such award of her career.
  • Women's Lacrosse Blows Out Brenau 26-4

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team jumped on the visiting Brenau Golden Tigers early and did not let up Tuesday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, running away from their opponents for a 26-4 victory. The win sends the Stormy Petrels to a long break with a 2-5 record.
  • Women's Lacrosse Drops SAA Contest to Sewanee

    On Saturday afternoon, the Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team hosted the Sewanee Tigers in an SAA matchup at Oglethorpe Track and Field. The Stormy Petrels hung in for awhile, but Sewanee was eventually able to pull away to a 21-2 victory.
  • Women's Lacrosse Notches First Win of Season with 22-7 Blowout
    February 28, 2018
    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team earned its first victory of the season Wednesday evening at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, blitzing the visiting North Carolina Wesleyan Battling Bishops 22-7. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 1-4 on the season heading back into SAA play on Saturday.
  • Women's Lacrosse Falls to Centre in SAA Matchup

    The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team traveled to Danville, Kentucky, to face SAA rival Centre on Saturday afternoon. The Stormy Petrels found themselves down 5-0 within the first six minutes of play, and things didn’t improve much from there, as the homestanding Colonels came away with a 20-1 victory. The Petrels are now 0-4 for the season and 0-2 in the SAA.
  • Late Women's Lacrosse Comeback Falls Short in 14-9 Loss to Piedmont
    February 20, 2018
    On Tuesday night, the Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team challenged in-state opponent Piedmont at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, playing the visitors evenly in the second half despite a 14-9 defeat. The Stormy Petrels had a rough start, falling behind 7-2 by halftime and 12-3 early in the second half, but with the game seemingly out of reach, the Petrels refused to go quietly, outscoring the visiting Lions 5-1 over the final seven minutes of play. Nevertheless, the late game comeback wouldn’t be enough for the Petrels to overtake the Lions, who held on for the 5-goal victory. The Petrels dropped to 0-3 on the young season. 
  • Women's Lacrosse Drops Home Opener to Tennessee Wesleyan

    The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team hosted their first home game of the 2018 season on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. Tennessee Wesleyan put the Stormy Petrels behind early and rode that to an 18-4 victory, dropping Oglethorpe to 0-2 on the young season.
  • Women's Lacrosse Falls at Berry in Season Opener

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team got their season underway Tuesday night at Valhalla stadium in Mount Berry, falling to the homestanding Berry Vikings 9-5. The Stormy Petrels hung with Berry throughout the contest, never falling behind by more than five goals, but the Vikings prevailed in the end.
  • 2018 Women's Lacrosse Season Preview

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team returns to the field Tuesday night, as they immediately hit the road in conference play to take on Berry at 7 p.m. from Mount Berry. The Stormy Petrels return off of a season in which they finished sixth in the SAA, advancing to the SAA Tournament for the first time since it was reduced to six teams, and finished with a 6-12 overall record, marking the most wins in the history of the young program. They'll look to build on that during the upcoming 2018 season.
  • National Girls and Women in Sports Day to Be Held Feb. 4 in Dorough Field House/Schmidt Center

    The Oglethorpe athletic department and the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday, Feb. 4. The event will take place in the Traditions lobby of Dorough Field House and in the Schmidt Recreation Center.
