Women Lose on Last Second Colonel Goal

The women's soccer team lost to Centre College in Danville, Ky. on Sunday afternoon, 2-1. Despite appearing offsides, the Colonels scored the game-winning goal on a service into the box with less than five seconds remaining in regulation.

The Petrels battled hard all afternoon and nearly managed to hand the Colonels, ranked nationally, their first loss of the season. Trailing 1-0, Oglethorpe got the equalizer in the 38th minute when freshman Clara St. Urbain beat a slew of defenders for her team-high 6th goal of the season.

The score remained level at one apiece until the dying seconds when Centre played a ball inside the Petrels box. Though the Colonel player appeared to have come offsides, the ensuing goal with just 4 ticks left on the clock gave them the dramatic win.

Oglethorpe is now 6-2 on the season and will return home to face Dallas and Austin in weekend play on Salamone Field.
