St. Urbain Named SCAC Newcomer of the Year; Koch Makes Third Team
The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announced the 2010 women's soccer postseason award winners today and freshman Clara St. Urbain was named Newcomer of the Year to go along with All-SCAC Third Team status. Junior Kristen Koch also recieved Third Team honors.
St. Urbain is the first member of the Stormy Petrel women's soccer program to receive one of the four individual postseason awards from the SCAC. In addition to Newcomer of the Year, the conference also bestows an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year as well as a Coach of the Year.
St. Urbain, a first-year forward from Marietta, Ga., and the only freshman to finish in the top 10 among conference scoring leaders, netted eight goals and one assist for 17 points during the regular season. Her scoring effort was the most by an Oglethorpe player in over five years, and she played the most of the season while injured.
Koch was stellar patrolling the back line defense for Oglethorpe all season long to earn All-SCAC Third Team honors. She netted the game-winning goal against Millsaps in the season finale to lift the Petrels to their first cconference win since 2006.
