The Oglethorpe women's soccer team played Warren Wilson to a 2-2 draw on Saturday morning at Salamone Field.
The Petrels got off to a very quick start as Kristen Koch tallied to opening goal in just the fourth minute of the game. It was a shot from distance that sailed over the goalkeeper and into the upper right corner of the net. Katie Muller tallied the assist on the goal.
However, the Petrels were unable to add on to their lead, despite having total control of the game for much of the first half. This came back to bite them in the second half, as Warren Wilson scored two goals in a little over a minute to turn the game around.
The Petrels were then forced to frantically chase the game for most of the second half in an attempt to tie it up. Senior Alexandria Vassell finally came through in the 82nd minute and sent the game into overtime.
In the extra periods, Oglethorpe was playing with 10 players after Lexie Craig picked up a late red card. Despite this, overtime was a very exciting back-and-forth affair. However, neither team was able to score, and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
The tie moves the Petrels record to 1-2-1 on the year.
