The women's soccer team lost to Huntingdon College on Salamone Field on Wednesday evening, 1-0. In a tight, closely played affair, the Hawks got a goal in the game's 60th minute and made it hold up despite a furious attack by the Petrels to net the equalizer.
The Hawks' Jessica Salinas took a carom off a Petrel inside the box and redirected it into the top left corner of the goal to put Huntingdon on top at the 59:10 mark of the contest. Oglethorpe continued to press Huntingdon throughout the final 30 minutes, including cracking 12 shots to Huntingdon's 4 in the second stanza alone, but could not get one past the Hawks keeper.
In all, Oglethorpe outshot Huntingdon 17-11 on the evening and earned 6 corner kicks to the Hawks' 2 but could not get one of their free kicks on target.
With the result, Oglethorpe is now 1-3-1 on the season as the team braces for SCAC play to begin this weekend. The Petrels will square off with Austin this Friday at 2:00 p.m. and cap the weekend on Sunday against Dallas with a noon kick. Both games are home contests on Salamone Field.
