The women's soccer team was topped by Austin College on Salamone Field on Friday afternoon, 4-0. The Kangaroos jumped in front 1-0 in the first half and then tallied three second half strikes to put the game away.
The 'Roos jumped on the scoreboard in the 20th minute when Ali Ryan chipped a low cross past keeper Elia Breijo for the score. The Petrels did well the remainder of the half in keeping a pressing Austin team off the scoreboard but the 'Roos relentless pressure eventually yielded the three second half strikes.
Demonstrating their advantage in numbers, Austin played 23 different players in the contest while Oglethorpe head coach Alan Woods, beset by injuries, was only able to use 12. The Kangaroos took advantage of their fresh legs to outshoot Oglethorpe 31-3 on the afternoon. Despite the offensive onslaught by Austin, Breijo was excellent in goal for the Petrels, recording 13 saves in the contest.
With the result, the Petrels are now 1-4-1 on the season. The women will be back in action this Sunday at noon on Salamone Field when they square off with the University of Dallas.
