The Oglethorpe women's soccer team lost a tough one Wednesday everning at Salamone Field, blowing a two-goal, second-half lead to Agnes Scott and losing in double overtime, 3-2.
The game-winning goal for Agnes Scott came in the 105th minute, five minutes into the second period of overtime. This came after a fevered comeback by the visiting Scotties in the second half. Down 2-0 with 20 minutes to go in the game, they tied it in the 77th minute.
The game looked pretty good for the Lady Petrels in the first half. taking five shots and scoring two goals. The first goal of the game came on a 25-yard bomb by Hannah Kuhn in the 24th minute. She collected the ball slightly to the left of goal and unleashed a brilliant shot that sailed over the head of the goalkeeper and into the upper-right corner of the net.
The second goal came in the 35th minute. The sequence was started by Clara St. Urbain, who sent a wicked shot in that was saved by the Agnes Scott goalkeeper. The rebound stayed in front of goal, however, and Emily Silva came upon it and knocked it home, giving the Lady Petrels a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Individually, Kuhn and Silva scored a goal apiece and St. Urbain tallied an assist. Kuhn had a particularly efficient day, firing three shots and scoring once. All three shots were on-frame.
The loss drops the Lady Petrels to 2-3 on the season. They will next be in action Tuesday afternoon, when they will take on in-state opponent Piedmont on Salamone Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
