Women's Soccer Loses to Birmingham

The Oglethorpe women's soccer team lost in the quarterfinals of the SAA Tournament Friday evening in Danville, Ky., losing to Birmingham-Southern, 2-0. The loss ends their season with a 5-11 record.

Birmingham-Southern outshot the Lady Petrels 9-1 in the first half, putting Oglethorpe goalkeeper Bailey Evans under assault. They finally broke through in the 38th minute, giving them a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Oglethorpe was able to mount a bit more of an attack, as they outshot Birmingham-Southern, 9-8, but they couldn't break through on the Lady Panthers goalkeeper. Birmingham-Southern held onto the 1-0 lead throughout the second half. Then, in the 89th minute, the Lady Panthers put the game away with another goal, giving them a 2-0 lead.

Evans had seven saves on the evening, as Birmingham-Southern outshot the Lady Petrels overall 17-10. They took nine corner kicks to Oglethorpe's one.

The loss means that the Lady Petrels fall to 5-11 on the season. They accumulated a 1-6 record in SAA play.
