Lady Netters Win Opener at Maryville

The Oglethorpe University women's tennis team defeated Maryville College in Tennessee in their season opener on Saturday afyernoon, 6-3. Trailing the Scots 2-1 after the doubles matches, Oglethorpe rallied to win 5 of the 6 singles matches to claim victory.

The combination of Molly Colvard and Sarah Beth Britt were the only duo to scratch out a point in the doubles matches, winning 8-3. Alison Burt dropped the #1 singles match but the Petrels rattled off five straight points with Colvard, Britt, Jayme Danielson, Kimbery O'Dell and Sarah Duff all winning their matches to spring Oglethorpe to the season opening win. O'Dell clinched the match for Oglethorpe from the #5 singles position.

With the win Oglethorpe is 1-0 on the young season and will host Methodist in their home opener tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. on Downing Howell Courts.
