Lady Netters Top Hendrix, Capture 9th Place

The women's tennis team rallied to top Hendrix College at the SCAC Championships in N. Little Rock, Arkansas on Saturday afternoon, 5-4. Down 2-1 after doubles, the Petrels took 4 of 6 singles matches to record a ninth place finish in the tennis talent-rich SCAC.

The Petrels top doubles duos of Jayme Danielson-Katarina Te and Caffrey Francis-Kate Siess each lost 8-5 but Oglethorpe secured a point at No. 3 with Sarah Duff and Kayla Atkins combining to notch an 8-2 victory.

Oglethorpe then blitzed the Warriors in the singles matches with four wins. Caffrey Francis clinched the match for the Petrels with a win at No. 2, giving Oglethorpe the 9th place conference finish. The SCAC is regularly one of the toughest tennis conferences in all the land, women or men.

The Lady Netters finish the season at 9-13 overall. With a lineup of underclassmen and only two reserve player seniors graduating, the 2011-12 outlook for the Petrels is bright.
