The SCAC announced the 2011 Women's Tennis All-Conference Team on Tuesday and freshman Caffrey Francis and junior Jayme Danielson each earned Honorable Mention status after turning in outstanding seasons.
Francis, from Acworth, Ga., was undefeated for much of the season before finishing with a sterling 18-2 overall record playing mostly from the No. 2 position. She backed up her singles performance by going 10-12 in doubles to play to put the cap on an outstanding freshman season. She received 14 points in conference-wide voting by the head coaches to earn her first All-SCAC Honorable Mention nod.
Danielson, from Atlanta, received 5 points in the coaches voting to earn her Honorable Mention distinction. She played the difficult No. 1 singles position with aplomb all year long for the Petrels, compiling a 9-11 overall record. Additionally, she was 8-14 in No. 1 doubles matches as head coach Peter Howell looks to her valued return as a senior leader next season.
The squad also gathered last Wednesday night to hand out their annual team awards at a dinner banquet. There, Francis received Team MVP honors, Kate Cassell was selected Most Improved and Kate Siess was named "Stormiest Petrel" for her dedication to the team. Both Cassell and Siess are freshmen who will be counted on as sophomores in the 2011-12 campaign.
