Women's Tennis Splits Tuesday in Orlando

The Oglethorpe women's tennis team split their two dual matches Tuesday in Orlando at the Spring Break Sports competition, defeating Ozarks 5-4 and falling to Otterbein 7-2.

The day started with the Lady Petrels picking up a victory against Ozarks, 5-4. Ozarks took a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the competition, with Oglethorpe only winning the No. 1 doubles with Katherine Walker and MaryAnne Hafen. 8-1. 

The Lady Petrels then lost the No. 2 singles match to fall behind 3-1. However, Oglethorpe started storming back from that point. It started with a 6-4, 6-2 victory by Katherine Walker at No. 1 singles. She played in the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles for the first time, and won both matches. Then, Tricia Groover tied the proceedings at 3-3 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory of her own. 

Hafen followed with a big 6-2, 6-4 victory out of the No. 3 slot, bringing her team to within a match of clinching the morning against Ozarks. And Kate Siess came through at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-1 win, clinching the Lady Petrels' second victory of the season, 5-3. 

In the second dual match of the day, the Lady Petrels fell behind Otterbein 3-0 after the doubles portion of the competition, then swept to a victory at 5-0 after taking the Nos. 1 and 2 singles matches. The Lady Petrels picked up two victories on the dual match, with Hafen winning her fourth match of the trip from the No. 3 slot 6-0, 6-2, and Groover winning the No. 4 match in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 10-8. 

The results move the Lady Petrels to 2-8 on the season.
