Members of the Oglethorpe women's tennis team are getting set to compete at the ITA Small College South Regional Championships this weekend, hosted by Sewanee in Sewanee, Tenn. The event takes place in the same venues that the men's event took place in last weekend.
The Petrels have several participants in the main singles draw. Jahaun Freeman-Clark takes on Amelia McIssac from Rhodes, in a match where the winner advances to play Deena Li Kam Wa from Millsaps, the draw's No. 3 seed. Katherine Walker takes on Sewanee's Elizabeth Lucas, as well. If she advances, she'll get Emory's Melissa Goodman, the No. 6 seed. Caffey Francis picks up a first-round bye. As such, her first match will be in the second round against Sewanee's Annie Veron. The first seed Francis could run into would be the No. 2, Emory's Michelle Satterfield, in the quarterfinals.
In the main doubles draw, Freeman-Clark and Walker take on the Mississippi College team of Schrock/Van Horn in the first round. The winner of that match takes on the seeded pairing of Gordon and Su from Emory. Francis and Ingrid Wilcox enjoy a first-round bye, and they'll battle Correa and Truitt of Emory in the second round on Friday. They wouldn't have the possibility of facing a seed until the quarterfinals.
In the B singles draw, Wilcox will face off against Mississippi College's Kaylee Kilgo. Meanwhile, Tricia Groover takes on Covenant's Hannah Dunlap. In B doubles, Groover and Hailey Bowers go up against Sewanee's Van Why and Sirbaugh. Meanwhile, in the C singles draw, Bowers gets a first-round bye and goes up against Covenant's Catherine Landers in the second round. On the other side of the draw, Charlsie Johnson also enjoys a first-round bye and takes on Centre's Kimberly Randall in the second round.
