Women's Tennis Begins Season with 9-0 Loss at No. 2 Emory

The Oglethorpe women's tennis team had a tough season-opening match against Emory, the No. 2 team in the nation, Tuesday, losing 9-0.

However, the match provided good experience for the young team, as the home-standing Eagles will almost certainly be the best team the Stormy Petrels play all year. The Petrels hung with their opponent in many cases.

Freshman Jahaun Freeman-Clark hung tough in the first set, losing 6-3, before tiring in the second. Freshman Ingrid Wilcox and sophomore Katherine Walker also performed well in the first set against their opponents, both losing 6-2 before also tiring in the second. Additionally, junior Tricia Groover hit the ball very well in her season debut. The No. 1 doubles team of Freeman-Clark and Walker competed hard, as well, losing 8-3.

The 0-1 Stormy Petrels will now get right back on the court Wednesday afternoon, as they travel to Macon, Ga., to take on Wesleyan.
