Women's Tennis Defeats Middle Georgia State, 8-1

The Oglethorpe women's tennis team picked up its second victory in a row Friday afternoon, defeating Middle Georgia State 8-1 on the Howell Tennis Courts.

The Stormy Petrels swept doubles, as JaHaun Freeman-Clark/Katherine Walker (No. 1) and Caffrey Francis/Marcail McGranahan (No. 2) both won 8-3, and Ingrid Wilcox/Tricia Groover took the No. 3 match, 8-0.

In singles competition, the only loss came at No. 6, and the top four Petrels virtually breezed through in straight sets. Freeman-Clark won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, Francis 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, Walker 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3, and McGranahan 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4. Wilcox needed a first-set tiebreak at No. 5, but won that tiebreak 8-6, then went on to dominate the second set, 6-2.

The victory improves the Petrels to 5-12 on the season. They'll get back into SAA play for the final weekend of the season, taking on Rhodes at 9 a.m. Saturday and Hendrix at 9 a.m. Sunday. Both matches will take place on the Howell Tennis Courts.
