    Saturday served as Graduation Day for Oglethorpe University, with a large number of Oglethorpe student-athletes receiving their diplomas on the school's academic quad on Saturday morning.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2017-18 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Sixth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the university's Turner Lynch Campus Center. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2017-18 athletic year as a whole.
  • Three from Women's Tennis Team Earn All-SAA Honors

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team saw three players from the squad earn their way onto the All-SAA teams, released Friday by the league office and voted by the league's coaches. Senior Caroline Johnson closed her career with another All-SAA First Team selection, while junior Shannon Cruz and sophomore Hannah Dattilo both earned All-SAA Honorable Mention.
  • Women's Tennis Sees Season Come to Close with SAA Semifinal Loss to No. 11 Sewanee

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team fell 5-0 to the No. 11 Sewanee Tigers Saturday morning in the SAA Tournament semifinals at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, drawing their season to a close.

    The Oglethorpe women’s tennis team won its’ first round match-up in the SAA tournament, defeating Berry 5-2 in a match that was played to decision. 
  • Women's Tennis Holds on for 5-4 Victory over Centre

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team got out to a big lead in doubles and held on in singles play Saturday morning at the Howell Courts, persevering for a 5-4 victory over the visiting Centre Colonels in their final match of the regular season. The win improved the Stormy Petrels to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in SAA play.
  • Women's Tennis Blanks LaGrange on Senior Day

    The Oglethorpe women’s team swept the LaGrange Panthers, 9-0, Tuesday afternoon at the Howell Courts. It was a match where Caroline Johnson and Halley Sickling were honored as part of Senior Day. Sickling and junior Shannon Cruz wasted no time picking up an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles, while Johnson and sophomore Hannah Dattilo picked up an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
  • Women's Tennis Falls Short against No. 38 Millsaps

    The Oglethorpe women’s tennis team fell to No. 38 Millsaps, 5-1, in a match that was started late due to cold conditions, and was played to decision Sunday in Jackson, Mississippi. The Petrels dropped two out of three doubles matches, picking up a win at No. 3 doubles, as junior Shannon Cruz and senior Halley Sickling won their match, 8-2. Senior Caroline Johnson and sophomore Hannah Dattilo battled in their match at No. 1, but came up short, 8-6. 
  • Women's Tennis Drops First SAA Match to Birmingham-Southern

    The Oglethorpe women’s tennis team battled through some cold and windy weather, and came up a bit short in falling to Birmingham Southern, 6-3.  All three doubles matches were tight, with the Petrels losing at #1 doubles, 9-7, and at #2 doubles, 8-6.  Shannon Cruz and Halley Sickling picked up a 9-8 (5) win at #3 doubles, and the Petrels headed into singles play down 2-1.
  • Tennis Matches with Birmingham-Southern Postponed Due to Rain

    The Oglethorpe tennis teams' matches against the Birmingham-Southern Panthers Friday night in Alabama have been postponed due to rain. The two teams will attempt to play on Saturday early in the afternoon before the Stormy Petrels travel to Jackson, Mississippi, for their matches against Millsaps on Sunday.
  • Women's Tennis Wins Several Close Matches to Take an 8-1 Overall Win over Piedmont

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team won a series of close matches Thursday afternoon in Demorest, earning an 8-1 victory over Piedmont in the dual match as a result. The win improved the Stormy Petrels to 8-4 on the season overall headed into a couple of SAA matches on the weekend.
  • Caroline Johnson Wins SAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week Award

    Senior Caroline Johnson of the Oglethorpe women's tennis team has been named the SAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her efforts during the team's 2-0 weekend, with victories over conference foes Hendrix and Rhodes. This marks the third time that Johnson has won the award, and her first time this season. It also marks the second time a member of the team has won the award this year after junior Shannon Cruz did so on March 14.
  • Women's Tennis Defeats Rhodes to Improve to 3-0 in League Play

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team continued it's solid play Saturday morning in defeating Rhodes, 8-1. They swept all three doubles matches and won five of six singles matches in moving their overall record to 7-4, and their SAA record to 3-0. They've won five matches in a row since and haven't lost since their spring break trip in early March.
  • Women's Tennis Blanks Hendrix, 9-0

    The Oglethorpe women’s tennis team picked up a resounding 9-0 victory over visiting Hendrix Friday on the Howell Courts. The Stormy Petrels dominated all facets of play in the victory.
  • Women's Tennis Defeats Berry in SAA Opener

    The Oglethorpe women’s tennis team won their SAA opener Saturday morning by defeating the Berry Vikings, 8-1, on the Howell Courts. It was the team’s third consecutive win and takes their record to 5-4 on the season, and 1-0 in SAA play.

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team swept the homestanding Agnes Scott Scotties Friday afternoon in Decatur, defeating them 9-0 to improve to 4-4 on the season overall.

    After digging themselves a hole and falling behind early, the Oglethorpe women's tennis team made a valiant comeback Tuesday evening at Fort Gatlin Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida, only to fall a point short, as they dropped a 5-4 decision to NAIA opponent Aquinas.
  • Women's Tennis Splits Day 2 of Spring Break Trip

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team split the second day of their spring break trip Monday in Orlando, Florida, falling to No. 30 Kenyon in a sweep in the morning, but responding with a 9-0 victory of their own over Emerson in the evening. The results moved the Stormy Petrels to 2-3 on the young season.
  • Women's Tennis Loses Tight Match to Start Spring Break Trip

    The Oglethorpe women’s tennis team lost a heartbreaker in the first match of their spring break trip, falling to Coe 5-4 in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The doubles matches were incredibly close.  The Petrels got off on the winning track, as junior Shannon Cruz and sophomore Taylor Crawford won at No. 2, 8-1. After dropping the No. 1 doubles match, the Petrels hoped to get a win at No. 3 doubles to carry a lead into the singles matches. Despite serving with a 7-6 lead, the tandem of senior Halley Sickling and freshman Elizabeth Bielicki lost a nail-biter, 9-8 (7-4).
  • Women's Tennis Drops Match to Reinhardt, 7-2

    The Oglethorpe women’s team lost to NAIA opponent Reinhardt on a chilly day at Howell Courts by the score of 7-2.  In doubles, all three matches were tight, with Reinhardt taking two out of three. At No. 1 doubles, senior Caroline Johnson and sophomore Hannah Datillo fell by the score of 9-7. The Petrels picked up a point at No. 2 doubles, as juniors Charlotte Disley and Shannon Cruz prevailed 8-6. At No. 3, senior Halley Sickling and sophomore Elizabeth Bielicki were defeated 9-7.
  • Women's Tennis Blasts Rose-Hulman to Start Spring Season

    The Oglethorpe women’s tennis team defeated Rose-Hulman 8-1 to open up their spring season at home on the Howell Courts.

    The 2017-18 Oglethorpe women's tennis team comes off their best two years since moving to Division III in 1991. The 2017 team finished third in the SAA, regionally ranked No. 14, and the 2018 team looks to be just as strong. We have added a new freshmen & transfer who will join our nucleus to give us our deepest team. The Stormy Petrels will feature two seniors, three juniors, three sophomores and two freshmen.
  • National Girls and Women in Sports Day to Be Held Feb. 4 in Dorough Field House/Schmidt Center

    The Oglethorpe athletic department and the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday, Feb. 4. The event will take place in the Traditions lobby of Dorough Field House and in the Schmidt Recreation Center.

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team defeated junior college side Oxford 8-1 on Friday in Oxford, Georgia, closing out their fall season in excellent fashion.
  • Women's Tennis Completes Stay at ITA Regional Championships

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team completed their stay at the ITA South Regional Championships in Sewanee, Tennessee, on Saturday. The day was cut short due to rain, but the Stormy Petrel women did get several matches in.
  • Women's Tennis Gets Set for ITA South Regional Championships

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team is set for the ITA South Regional Championships, to take place Friday through Sunday in Sewanee, Tennessee. The event will feature Stormy Petrels competing for the regional singles and doubles championships, as well as in a variety of secondary draws.
  • Women's Tennis Completes Weekend at John McWilliams Invitational, Cranford Wins Sportsmanship Trophy

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team completed their stay in Montgomery, Alabama, at the John McWilliams Fall Invitational at Lagoon Park Sunday. The Stormy Petrels won more matches, split between singles and doubles competition against Huntingdon, LaGrange, Millsaps and Point. Sophomore Taylor Cranford also took home the tournament's Women's Sportsmanship Trophy, as voted by the coaches of the five teams.
