Track & Field Closes Home Season

Oglethorpe's men's and women's track & field teams concluded their regular season competition at the university's track before an Alumni Weekend audience this past Saturday.

The women finished the season undefeated in dual meets (3-0) with their 44-29 victory of Concordia College of Selma, Alabama.  Several events were dropped from the day's competition as only Oglethorpe women were entered. The men lost by a 69-20 margin, bringing their season dual meet record to 1-1-1.

Three different Petrels won the women's throwing events.  Junior Courtney Craig won the discus; junior Tammer Weems won the shot put, while senior Chloey Mayo won the javelin.  Sophomore Beth Cleary won the 5000 meters and senior Elizabeth Hale broke a long-standing record in the triple jump with a leap of 35'-1”.

For the Oglethorpe men, junior Evan Britton continued to record fine jumps as he won both the triple jump at 44'6” and the high jump at 6'6”.  Freshman Troy Sheets won the 200 meter dash.

The team heads for Conway, Arkansas next weekend to compete in the SCAC Championships.
