Track Teams Excel at Emory Invitational

The men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Emory Invitational on Saturday amongst various Division I, II and III schools with the women recording a 7th place finish among 11 competing teams and the men posting a 9th place finish among 12.

The meet was highlighted by the Oglethorpe women setting a new school record in the 4x400 meter relay. Ky'Laine Rogers, Raven Foust, Sherry Blystone and Sarah Foster completed the four laps at a record setting pace to finish fourth in the relay and top the previous school record posted six years ago.

The 4x400 record occurred just moments after Rogers won the 200 meter open and Foster recorded a fourth place finish in the 4oo meter hurdles. Rogers also went on to finish second in the 100 meters and fifth in the high jump while also anchoring the 4x100 team which came within .04 seconds of topping another school record. Also scoring for the women was Tammer Weems in the shot put and Courtney Craig in the discus and javelin.

On the men's side, senior Evan Britton placed in the triple jump to lead the Petrels. Vincent Kennedy scored in the long jump while competing in five events and recording personal bests in each. Chris Schneider measured out his personal best in the discus and javelin and freshman Billy Colbert bettered his 800 meters and 1500 meters time to round out the highlighted performances for the men.

Both teams are back in action competing in the Jacksonville State Invitational on April 2.
