Competing against SCAC foes Birmingham-Southern, Sewanee and Millsaps, Oglethorpe track athletes broke four more school records in Saturday's four-way meet in Birmingham, Ala. The meet was highlighted by three SCAC sprinters, including the Petrels' Ky'Laine Rogers, running wind-aided NCAA provisional times in the 200 meter dash.
Rogers, Tiarra Goode of Birmingham-Southern and Erica Cook each met the NCAA provisional time in a hotly contested 200 meters that saw Rogers set her own personal best and shatter the Oglethorpe school record in the process. Goode, Cook and Rogers will likely meet again for a highly anticipated rematch in the SCAC Championships in two weeks.
The women's relay teams also continued to excel for head men's and women's track coach Jan Spiro. The 4x100 team (Sherry Blystone, Kyana Jenkins, Raven Foust and Ky'Laine Rogers) broke their own school record which held up for only one week while the 4x400 team(Blystone, Rogers, Foust and Sarah Foster) smashed their own record by over 2 seconds.
Other outright Oglethorpe winners were Raven Foust with a personal best in the 400 meters, Sarah Foster in the 400 hurdles, Evan Britton with a personal best in the triple jump and Chris Schneider in both the hammer throw (school record) and shot put (personal best). Oglethorpe track athletes broke at least one school record at each meet they competed at this year, signifying a major achievement for the 2011 squad.
The women' team finished third overall at the Hilltop Classic meet while the short-handed men's team finished fourth.
Next up for each team are the SCAC Championships in Memphis on April 22nd.
