Jan Allen Spiro joins the Oglethorpe family in the fall of 2010 as the new head coach of men’s and women’s track and field. Jan comes to Oglethorpe after many years as a middle and long distance coach for the Atlanta Track Club, where he  has trained and guided numerous American and Canadian age group champions. Jan also currently serves as the cross country community coach for the The Galloway School in Atlanta.

As a competitive athlete, Jan was a member of the Atlanta Track Club’s Masters mile team, which set a world relay record in 2001. He is also a former USA Track and Field Southeastern Masters mile champion. He is a three-time Boston Marathon finisher.

Coach Spiro is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and resides with his wife Wendy in the Brookhaven section of Atlanta, just a strong javelin throw from the Stormy Petrel campus.

Warren Matthews
Warren Matthews
Title: Assistant Track Coach, Sprints

Warren Matthews brings a wealth of knowledge to the OU track and field program with over seven years of sprint and relay coaching experience. He hails from Syracuse University, where he was team captain for two years. He was also a four-time IC4A qualifier in the 100 and 200 meters. Coach Matthews has lead the Petrels to four relay and two open school records in the last two seasons.

Byron Kramer
Byron Kramer
Title: Assistant Coach

In addition to his duties as assistant coach, Kramer will focus on throwing, jumping and strength coordination. Coach Kramer joins the Oglethorpe staff after a successful career as a high school track, cross country and basketball coach in Michigan. Byron captained both the cross country and track teams during his college days  at Ferris State University. He is also presently a personal trainer and a nationally-ranked Masters pentathlete.

Donyale Greenwell
Donyale Greenwell
Title: Assistant Track & Field Coach

Coach Greenwell joins the Oglethorpe staff after a fabulous career at the University of Houston, where she was a two-time All-American and an AAU record holder in the 400 and 800 meters. She completed her last two years of eligibility with OU while pursuing her degree in history in the evening degree program. Donyale looks to bring her passion for track and field to the Petrels in the coming seasons and will focus her efforts on horizontal jumps and middle distance runs.
