The Oglethorpe volleyball team fell Saturday in its first road match of the season, losing 3-1 (19-25, 25-19, 25-10, 25-18) to Sewanee.
The Petrels took the first set, 25-19, but were unable to get anything more. In the second set, the two teams were tied at 11-11, but Sewanee went on a run and wound up winning the set, 25-19.
In the third set, Sewanee went up 10-6, then went on an 11-4 run to go up 21-10. The Tigers cruised from there, taking the set by the score of 25-10. The fourth set was a hard-fought, back-and-forth set. Sewanee had a 17-14 lead and went on a run to pull away at the end of the set, closing the Petrels out, 25-18.
The loss drops Oglethorpe to 1-2 on the season. They will next take the court on Sunday afternoon, when they will travel to Centre to take on the Colonels in an SAA match. Play will begin at 1:30 p.m.
