Lady Petrels Defeat Covenant in Five Sets

The Oglethorpe volleyball team beat Covenant in five sets Wednesday night, 3-2 (17-25, 27-29, 26-24, 25-18, 15-13). The win improves the Lady Petrels to 3-7 on the season.

The Lady Petrels fell behind two-sets-to-none before rallying for a huge three-set comeback to defeat the visiting Scots, who are currently leading the Great South Athletic Conference with a 14-4 record.

Anna Marie DeSalvo recorded 17 kills in the five-set victory, to go along with 11 digs. She is currently 49th in the nation in kills per set with 3.67. She leads the SAA in the same category. Ashley Haislip had four block assists in the match. She is third in the conference in blocks per set with 0.96.

Erin Shelton tallied 11 kills, Brittin Dawson passed out 20 assists and had 11 digs, McKenna Bondarenko slammed home 12 kills, Megan MaKuck recorded 24 digs, Hayley Baer had 11 kills and seven digs, and Kate Cassell tallied 21 assists and eight digs.

The Lady Petrels will next be in action Friday evening, when they will take on Sewanee in SAA play at 7 p.m.
