The Oglethorpe volleyball team tallied its first SAA victory of the season Sunday, going on the road to defeat Rhodes in five sets, 3-2 (25-19, 16-25, 25-22, 10-25, 15-12). The win improves the Lady Petrels to 4-11 overall, 1-11 in SAA play.
The Lady Petrels never trailed in the match, in terms of sets won. They twice took a one-set lead, only to see the home-standing Lynx come back and tie it both times. However, Oglethorpe was able to take the fifth and final set, 15-12, giving them their first-ever SAA victory and their first conference win of the year.
Sophomore outside hitter McKenna Bondarenko led the way with 32 kills for Oglethorpe. Sophomore Anna Marie Disalvo filled in very nicely at setter this weekend, adding 45 assists to her 50 assists from Saturday afternoon at Hendrix. She managed six digs, as well, from her new postition. Libero Megan MaKuck led the team with 20 digs, and freshman outside hitter Erin Shelton provided the Lady Petrels 17 digs and eight kills.
The volleyball team will next be in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m., when they will take on crosstown opponent Agnes Scott in their final home match of the season.
