|TEAM STATISTICS||Wesleyan (Ga.)||Oglethorpe|
The Oglethorpe volleyball team got off to a very good start to its two-day, four-match stay at the Berry College Invitational, sweeping both Wesleyan (Ga.) and Faulkner 3-0 and improving to 8-13 on the season.
The day started off with the Lady Petrels defeating Wesleyan 25-15, 25-11, 25-7. Oglethorpe essentially led the match and every set wire-to-wire. After the first set was tied 3-3, the Pioneers took a 5-3 lead. Later on, they had a 2-0 lead in the second set. Those were the only two set leads they held for the entire match.
Sophomore outside hitter McKenna Bondarenko put away 17 kills in the match with no attack errors for a percentage of .708. Sophomore setter Anna Marie Disalvo dished out 18 assists and sophomore middle blocker Ashley Haislip contributed six kills.
After a brief break, the Lady Petrels took the court for their second match of the day against Faulkner. The Eagles didn't fair much better than the Pioneers, as they succumbed in straight sets by the score of 25-21, 25-17, 25-20. Oglethorpe never trailed a set by more than two points or at all after they had scored five points in a set once again in this match, just like the first one.
Haislip had eight kills and, like Bondarenko in the Wesleyan match, did not commit an attack error. She finished the match with a hitting percentage of .571. Bondarenko and freshman outside hitter Erin Shelton contributed 10 kills apiece, while Disalvo passed out 18 assists.
The Lady Petrels will complete their stay at the Berry College Invitational with two more matches tomorrow. They will first take the court tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m., when they will take on Agnes Scott for the second time in a week-and-a-half. Then at 3 p.m., they will complete their weekend schedule with a match against Brenau.
