Volleyball Splits Second Day of Berry College Invitational

The Oglethorpe volleyball team earned a split of their two matches on the second day of the Berry College Invitational. They defeated Agnes Scott Saturday morning 3-0, then lost to Brenau Saturday afternoon by the same score.

The Lady Petrels defeated the Scotties of Agnes Scott 25-19, 25-12, 25-18 in their first match of the day. It was their second victory over Agnes Scott in the last 10 days, as they defeated Agnes Scott at home 3-0 on Wednesday of last week.

In their final game of the tournament, Oglethorpe lost to Brenau 25-19, 25-19, 25-18. In that match, the Lady Petrels got eight kills from outside hitter Erin Shelton, 14 assists from setter Anna Marie Disalvo, and 11 digs from libero Megan MaKuck.

The Lady Petrels finish the Berry College Invitational 3-1, good for third place in the six-team tournament behind 3-1 Brenau, who the Lady Petrels lost to head-to-head, and undefeated tournament-champion Berry. Sophomore outside hitter McKenna Bondarenko earned a spot on the Invitational all-tournament team for her work in Oglethorpe's victories over Wesleyan, Faulkner and Agnes Scott during the tournament.

Saturday's results move the Petrels to 9-14 on the season. They will next be in action Tuesday afternoon, when they travel to Lookout Mountain, Ga., to take on Covenant in their regular-season finale at 7 p.m. Next weekend, the Lady Petrels trek back to Mount Berry, Ga., for the SAA Tournament. Oglethorpe will be the No. 7 seed in the tournament, and will take on No. 2 seed Millsaps in the quarterfinals on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
