Track and Field Competes at Georgia's Torrin Lawrence Memorial

The Oglethorpe men's and women's track and field teams competed Saturday at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, putting forth some solid performances among the five athletes who competed.

Two Stormy Petrel women posted their best performances of the season so far in a couple of disciplines. Sophomore Kayla Trice finished eighth overall and second among Division III competitors with a time of 12.21 seconds in the 100-meter dash. That put her in the top 30 in the country in the event on the season. Junior Arielle Shaw joined Trice with her best triple jump of the season, leaping 37 feet, 5.25 inches to finish fourth on the day, putting her among the nation's top 45 in the discipline on the season.

On the men's side, junior Rodrigo Meade finished fourth in the 1500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 4:03.3, while freshman Jacob Hadden came in seventh in the same event, posting a mark of 4:06.0. Meanwhile, freshman Oz Faal finished seventh in the 800-meter run, recording a time of 1:56.1.

"Overall, I was pleased with the performances today," said Oglethorpe head coach Kirk Shellhouse. "We've got one more week left for some of these athletes to continue their quest to qualify for nationals, and I look forward to seeing how they perform next week."

These same athletes will compete at the Dr. Keeler Invitational on Friday in Napierville, Illinois, which will represent the last chance for them to earn a qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships later this month.
