Men's Golf 18th in Latest Coaches' Poll

The Oglethorpe men's golf team dropped one spot to No. 18 in the latest Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, released Friday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Stormy Petrels were ranked 17th in the preseason poll put out by the same organization.

The team finished 16th at the NCAA Division III Fall Preview Sept. 17 and 18 in Nicholasville, Kentucky. That came after tying for first at the SAA Fall Preview in Dickson, Tennessee, on Sept. 9.

Emory took the top spot in this week's poll, claiming 10 of a possible 18 first-place votes. Methodist came in second with the other 8 first-place votes, Huntingdon stayed at No. 3, Wittenberg moved up to No. 4, and Illinois Wesleyan tied for fifth with Washington and Lee. Guilford, Claremont-M-S, Hope and Rhodes rounded out the top 10.

The Petrels joined No. 10 Rhodes, No. 22 Berry and No. 24 Sewanee as SAA teams making it into the top 25, while Centre was among those also receiving votes. They also joined No. 1 Emory, No. 19 LaGrange and Berry as teams from Georgia in the poll, with Piedmont among those also receiving votes.

Oglethorpe will be back in action next week, as they head to Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club in Flowery Branch for their own Oglethorpe-Royal Lakes Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
