The Oglethorpe men's golf team moved into the top 25 of the Bushnell Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll Friday, reentering the ranking at 25th. It marked the first time the Stormy Petrels cracked the top 25 since the Sept. 28 poll, as they fell out for three straight releases during the latter half of the fall.
The Petrels leaped over Chapman, who held down the No. 22 spot in the first poll of the spring back on Feb. 15 but fell out in Friday's release.
Emory received 12 of a possible 16 first-place votes to remain in the top spot for the fifth straight time. Huntingdon remained No. 2 and took the other four first-place votes. Illinois Wesleyan and Claremont-M-S swapped to third and fourth, respectively, after holding the opposite spots in the February poll. Wittenberg remained fifth. Methodst, Guilford, Southwestern (Texas), Redlands and La Verne rounded out the top 10.
No. 21 Rhodes joined the Petrels as the two teams to earn top 25 recognition out of the SAA. Berry was among those teams also receiving votes.
The Petrels joined top-ranked Emory and No. 18 LaGrange as the three teams from Georgia in the poll. Piedmont joined Berry among those also receiving votes.
Oglethorpe has still yet to tee off their spring season officially after the Callaway Gardens Collegiate Invitational got rained out Monday and Tuesday. The Petrels head to Beaufort, South Carolina, March 11 and 12 for the Adidas Intercollegiate, then head to the Georgia coast to host the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational March 15-17.
