Senior Jake Arnett of the Oglethorpe men's golf team has been named a semifinalist for the 2019 Division III Jack Nicklaus Award by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), marking his third consecutive appearance on the 30-man list.
The list will be pared to a group of finalists on May 14 at the GCAA Division III awards banquet in Lexington, Kentucky. That will take place as part of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships, set to run from May 14-17 in nearby Nicholasville, where Arnett and the rest of the Stormy Petrels will compete at Keene Trace Golf Club in their 19th NCAA tournament and their 18th in the last 19 years.
Arnett will be looking to join Oglethorpe alumni Trent Erb (2004) and Anthony Maccaglia (2015) as Stormy Petrel golfers to win the Nicklaus Award, given to the national player of the year in each division.
The GCAA will announce the winner of the award on May 30, with the honor presented by Nicklaus himself at a ceremony during the final round of the PGA Tour's Memorial Tournament at The Country Club at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio. In addition, the five recipients (one each from Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior college) will compete in the Barbasol Shootout on June 1 at The Ohio State University Golf Club in Columbus for an exemption into the PGA Tour's Barbasol Championship, held July 18-21 back at the same Champion Trace course at Keene Trace Golf Club where the Division III national champions will be crowned on May 17.
