Men's golf set to compete in 19th NCAA Division III Championships

The Oglethorpe men's golf team tees off at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday from the 10th hole at the Keene Run course at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky, marking the start of their 19th trip to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships, and their 18th in the last 19 seasons.

The Stormy Petrels, ranked 16th in the latest Division III coaches' poll, take to the course for the first of a potential four rounds as they go in search of their third national championship. They won their third SAA championship, and 13th overall conference title, back in late April when they cruised to a 23-stroke victory at the SAA Golf Championships. That win secured an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament field.

The Petrels enter the NCAA tournament having finished no worse than sixth in any spring tournament this season, storming back from being ranked 53rd in the Golfstat rankings and not being ranked in the coaches' poll at the end of the fall.

Oglethorpe will be paired with No. 9 Redlands and Goucher over the opening two rounds of the tournament. With those two teams, they'll play the secondary Keene Run course on Tuesday and the championship Champion Trace course on Wednesday. After 36 holes, the tournament field will be cut from 42 to 18 teams, with the six top individual scores among players not on those teams also advancing to the final two days.
