The men's lacrosse team lost their home opener to Susquehana University on Salamone Field on Tuesday afternoon, 18-3. The Crusaders tallied the only 5 goals of the first quarter to set them up for the breakaway win.
Down by five after the first 15 minutes, the Petrels finally got on the board in the second when Arness Holsey broke free for a strike. Susquehana would rattle off the next four goals to reclaim control before Oglethorpe netted their prettiest goal of the afternoon, a rocket-shot from junior Michael Kasmarik off a deft feed from freshman Coleman Plaisted. Plaisted also assisted fellow freshman Jake Godwin for a tally in the third quarter, the last of the contest for Oglethorpe.
The Crusaders won the war of ground balls with a 43-31 advantage while forcing the Petrels into 28 turnovers with their aggressive style.
The Petrels are now 0-3 on the season and will look to pick their first victory of the 2012 campaign when they square off with Piedmont in Demorest on March 14.
