The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team was shut out in the first half and, despite playing better in the second half, couldn't claw their way back into the game Sunday afternoon against the visiting Hendrix Warriors at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. The Stormy Petrels fell 14-5 in their final home game of the season and dropped to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in SAA play.
Hendrix outscored Oglethorpe 5-0 over the course of the opening 30 minutes, scoring three goals in the first quarter and two in the second. They also added the opening three markers of the third quarter, taking an 8-0 lead. Oglethorpe responded with two of the final three goals of the period, though.
Sophomore middie Brian Green scored Oglethorpe's first goal at the 7:15 mark, then freshman attackman Thomas Clark and junior attackman Cameron Ritter added man-up goals in the final two minutes of the quarter. The Petrels went into the final period down 9-3.
Clark added another man-up goal to start the fourth, making it 9-4 with 14:10 remaining. However, the visitors answered with five goals in a row. That effectively put the game away, giving them a 14-4 lead with 5:24 on the clock. Oglethorpe got one more when sophomore attackman Tyler Rover took a feed from Green and finished past the Hendrix goalie with 2:30 remaining.
Clark led the Petrels with two goals on the day, while freshman goalie Addison Irwin collected 22 saves.
Hendrix outshot Oglethorpe 36-13 on goal and committed just 18 turnovers to Oglethorpe's 33.
Oglethorpe will now close their regular season with three road conference games. They'll start by traveling to Danville, Kentucky, Saturday at 1 p.m. to take on Centre, then will finish with games against Berry and Birmingham-Southern.
