The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team fell 18-2 to the homestanding Centre Colonels Saturday afternoon in Danville, Kentucky. With the loss, the Stormy Petrels dropped to 4-8 on the season overall and 0-4 in SAA play.
The Petrels scored a goal in each of the opening two quarters but fell behind 10-2 going into halftime. Centre scored the opening two goals of the contest, but junior attackman Cameron Ritter responded with just under 12:30 remaining in the first quarter. He took a feed from sophomore attackman Tyler Rover and put it past the Colonel goalie to make the score 2-1. Centre responded with five straight goals to close the first period then came back with three more early in the second. Freshman middie Michael Burdge delivered a feed to freshman attackman Andrew Collins with 1:40 left in the first half and the attacker put it away. That cut the Colonels' lead to eight at the break.
However, Oglethorpe was unable to dent the scoreboard in the second half. Centre outscored them 8-0 over the final 30 minutes.
Centre outshot the Petrels 35-7 on goal and won 20 of 24 faceoffs. They also forced 31 Oglethorpe turnovers and scooped 43 ground balls to the Petrel's 18.
Oglethorpe will be back in action at Berry Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. After that, they'll close out their regular season with a trip to Alabama to take on Birmingham-Southern Friday at 5 p.m. EDT.
