The Oglethorpe men's soccer team grabbed one of 21 general at-large bids to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship Monday, marking the program's third trip to the national tournament and their second in three years. The 14-4 Stormy Petrels, currently ranked 18th in the country, will take on 11-7-1 Gettysburg in their first-round matchup at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from Lexington, Virginia. The Bullets earned an at-large bid out of the Centennial Conference. The winner of that game will take on the winner of the Lexington pod's other first-round matchup between host Washington and Lee, currently ranked 11th in the country, and North Carolina Wesleyan in the second-round game at 1 p.m. Sunday from Lexington.
The Petrels wrapped up their fifth straight SAA regular season title this year and advanced to the final of the SAA Men's Soccer Championship for the third straight season. They fell 4-3 in extra time Sunday in a thrilling conference championship game, but now extend their season into the NCAA tournament with the program's first-ever at-large bid.
