  • Men's tennis secures third place in SAA with 7-2 win at Berry

    The Oglethorpe men's tennis team closed its regular season on a high note Monday evening in Rome, coming back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles to sweep all six singles matches and win 7-2. The victory ensured the Stormy Petrels of third place in the SAA at 5-2 in league play and 11-6 overall. They'll hold the No. 3 seed in the first round of the SAA Tournament on Friday and take on No. 6 seed Birmingham-Southern in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

    The Oglethorpe Athletics Hall of Fame got five new members Friday night. Women's basketball players Anna Findley Roberts and Katie Kulavic Fox, men's soccer player Josh Rosendahl, men's golfer Taylor Urbanski, and the 1963 men's tennis team were all inducted at Oglethorpe's Turner Lynch Campus Center at the 2019 Alumni Awards and Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony, part of Alumni Weekend festivities at the university.

With the victories, the Stormy Petrels improved to 5-2 on the season.

They beat the Belhaven Blazers 7-2 Monday morning in Lakeland, Florida, before turning around and beating St. Scholastica n a 5-4 barn burner Monday night. The Stormy Petrels improved to 3-2 on the season with the victories.

    The Oglethorpe men's tennis team had a very successful 2018, finishing ranked 12th in the Atlantic South with a 12-6 record. They look to be much improved with the addition of a strong recruiting class. If their first year players can develop quickly, the Stormy Petrels will challenge for another top four finish in SAA play. They have the same depth they had last year with all but two players returning, and added strength at the top.
