The Oglethorpe men's tennis team saw three players earn spots on All-SAA teams, as voted by the league's coaches and released Monday by the conference office. Sophomore Walker Benson earned All-SAA first-team honors, while senior Richard Johnson garnered a spot on the All-SAA second team and senior Michael Santaloci nabbed All-SAA honorable mention.
Benson earned his second consecutive All-SAA nod after taking second-team honors for his freshman season of 2018. In 2019, he posted a 5-2 SAA singles record, and a 10-9 mark overall, playing entirely out of the top spot in the lineup. He currently stands as the 17th-ranked player in the Atlantic South region according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. In doubles play, Benson went 9-11 on the season, again playing most of his matches out of the top slot.
Johnson garnered his second straight All-SAA accolade after he earned honorable mention in 2018. He went 5-2 against conference competition in singles play, mostly out of the No. 2 slot.
Santaloci also earned the second All-SAA honor of his career after taking home honorable mention accolades in 2017. He went 5-2 in conference singles play, as well, and accrued a 9-9 overall record out of the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 slots. His doubles tandems went 5-2 in SAA play and 12-7 over the course of the whole season.
The Petrels finished third in the SAA and advanced to the conference semifinals. They currently sit at No. 10 in the Atlantic South regional rankings.
