Men's Tennis at ITA South Regional Championships (Day 2)

The Oglethorpe men's tennis team continued their stay at the ITA Division III South Regional Championships Friday at the Rome Tennis Center in northwest Georgia.

In the main singles consolation draw, junior Alexis Morel fell to North Carolina Wesleyan's Ingmar Remmerswaal 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. That came after he defeated Guilford's Drake Schreiber 6-2, 6-1 in the second round.

In the B singles draw, senior Zoe Raymond fell 6-3, 6-1 to Emory's Pushkar Shinde in the quarterfinals. Junior Calvin Schneider advanced through his quarterfinal, though, beating Sewanee's Dane Hawthorne in a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (2) epic. He advanced to the semifinals, but fell to Emory's Michael Moll 6-2, 6-2.

Sophomore Connor Sisson advanced to the C draw final, defeating Piedmont's James Gray 6-2, 6-0 in the quarterfinals and knocking out Covenant's Tyler Kelly 6-0, 6-2 in the semifinals. He's scheduled to take on Birmingham-Southern's Hunter Hoffmeister in the final.

Junior Elijah Bullock went on a run to the D draw championship on Saturday. He beat LaGrange's Josh Tuller 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals, then took out Piedmont's Walker Vonk 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinals. That set him up for the final against Piedmont's Cooper Kework, whom he beat 6-2, 6-1 to take the title.

Raymornd and freshman Walker Towns won their B doubles quarterfinal 8-4 over a tandem from Rhodes, but they fell to an Emory duo in the semifinals 8-4. Sophomore John Bielicki and Sisson defeated a Berry duo in the first round of the B doubles consolation draw. After the 8-4 win there, they advanced past a Piedmont team in the quarterfinals before falling to a Covenant pair in the semifinals.

Bullock and senior Alex Garcia got knocked off in the semifinals 8-4 in the C doubles draw.

Day 1 Recap

In the main singles draw, freshman Walker Towns won his first-round matchup 7-5, 6-4 against Covenant's Ethan Gibson. He advanced to the second round, where he was matched up against Emory's William Coupe. He fell 6-1, 6-0 in that match. Meanwhile, junior Alexis Morel fell 6-1, 6-2 to LaGrange's Daniel Vincent in the draw's first round.

Morel fell to the consolation draw, where he downed Emory's Sahil Raina 6-3, 6-3. He advanced to the second round of that draw, where he'll face Guilford's Drake Schreiber at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Morel and junior doubles partner Calvin Schneider won their first round matchup in the main doubles draw, defeating Alex Lloyd and Frank Stich of Rhodes 8-5. They fell to North Carolina Wesleyan's Aditya Iyer and Roberto Puig 8-4 in the second round.

Senior Zoe Raymond advanced to the quarterfinals of the B singles draw, where he'll take on Emory's Pushkar Shinde at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. He beat Centre's Faraz Ghamgosar 6-2, 6-2 in the first round, then took out Sewanee's Thomas Harrison 6-2, 6-1 in the second round. Schneider also earned his way into the quarterfinals, where he'll take on Sewanee's Dane Hawthorne at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. He posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over David Phillips of Rhodes in the first round, then knocked off LaGrange's Caleb Edde 6-3, 6-1 in the second round.

Sophomore Connor Sisson is still alive in the C draw quarterfinals, where he'll go against Piedmont's James Gray on Saturday morning. He defeated Birmingham-Southern's Bo Williams 6-1, 6-2 in the first round, then knocked off Emory and Henry's Archer Marlow 6-1, 6-2 in the second. Sophomore John Bielicki advanced to the second round, defeating Kells Hecht of Millsaps 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (8) in his opener. He fell to Centre's Newcomb Maddux 6-3, 7-5 in the second round.

Junior Elijah Bullock remains alive into the quarterfinals of the D singles draw, where he'll take on LaGrange's Josh Tuller. He beat Berry's Mack Latimer 6-3, 6-1 in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. Senior Alex Garcia fell 6-1, 6-3 to Berry's Alex Ruble in the second round after also earning a first-round bye.

Raymond and Towns remain alive into the B doubles quarterfinals. They beat a tandem from Guilford in the second round after taking down a first-round bye. They'll go against a duo from Rhodes in Saturday's quarterfinals. Bielicki and Sisson fell 8-1 to a pair frome Sewanee in their second-round battle. They'll play in the first round of the consolation draw on Saturday morning.

Bullock and Garcia are alive into the semifinals of the C doubles draw. They beat a tandem from Piedmont 8-3 in their first-round battle, then knocked off a Birmingham-Southern team 8-2. They'll take on a duo from Berry on Saturday.
