Men's Track and Field Finishes Tied for 14th at Emory Classic

The Oglethorpe men's track and field team had a solid weekend at the Emory Classic in Atlanta, finishing tied for 14th at the meet. 

The 400-meter dash was a highlight for the Petrels, as freshmen Marcus Alvarez and Justin Hazel both scored points in the event. Alvarez finished second with a time of 49.61 seconds, finishing behind only a competitor from Division II Clayton State. Hazel came in at 50 seconds flat, good enough for fourth place in the event and third among Division III competitors.

Meanwhile, sophomore Jonathan Vernon scored in the 5,000-meter race, finishing sixth with a time of 16:11.56. That put him in second place among Division III competition. Alvarez finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.54 seconds, while freshman Chris Williams came in seventh in the 400-meter hurdles on Friday with a time of 57 seconds flat, putting him fourth among Division III athletes in that event.

The Petrels will next be in action April 6 and 7, when they head to Mount Berry for the Berry Field Day Invitational. After that, they'll head to Sewanee, Tennessee, for the Mountain Laurel Twilight Invitational, followed immediately by the SAA Track and Field Championships, while will also take place in Sewanee on April 20 and 21.
