The Oglethorpe track and field teams began their outdoor seasons Saturday with a solid performance in-state at the Victor Icebreaker Duals in Mount Berry.
The Stormy Petrels were led on the day by freshman Bryce McNealy, who finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 49.66 seconds. Fellow freshman Thomas Ridley finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10 minutes, 1.83 seconds, as well.
On the women's side, senior Arielle Shaw finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 11.5 inches. Meanwhile, junior Kayla Trice earned two top eight finishes, as well, coming in seventh in both the long jump and 200 meters. She leaped 16-4 in the former and finished in 26.95 seconds in the latter. The women's 4-by-100 relay team finished eighth, posting a time of 50.42 seconds. Shaw, Trice, and freshmen Saray Ayoade and Maya Singleton comprised that unit.
Back on the men's side, freshman Monte Kahn finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles, completing his run in 16.93 seconds. The Petrel freshman also finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, completing that in 58.98. Sophomore Jacob Hadden finished seventh in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:04.75. Sophomore Deauntee McDuffie placed seventh in the pole vault with a leap of 12-6.
The Petrels will be back in action Friday and Saturday when they travel to Birmingham, Alabama, for the Southern Invitational.
