Sophomore Jacob Hadden of the Oglethorpe men's track and field team won SAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors Wednesday, as voted by the league's coaches. It marked Hadden's first such award of the track season after he took the SAA Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week award once during the fall. It's Hadden's fourth career SAA weekly award and his second track weekly award.
Hadden had a great showing in his season-opening 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He finished fifth overall with a school record time of 9 minutes, 32.71 seconds.
The Stormy Petrel sophomore currently stands first in the SAA and South/Southeast region with that mark, and fourth in all of NCAA Division III.
Hadden and the rest of the Petrels will be back in action this weekend when they travel across town for the Emory Invitational on Friday and Saturday. They'll return to Emory the following weekend for the Emory Classic.
