Rodrigo Meade takes SAA weekly men's track honor

The SAA office named senior Rodrigo Meade of the Oglethorpe men's track and field team the SAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week Wednesday, as voted by the league's coaches.

Meade had an outstanding showing Friday and Saturday at the Berry Field Day Invitational in Mount Berry. He started on Friday by finishing second in the 1500 meters with a school record time of 4 minutes, 0.1 seconds. Currently, he sits first in the SAA and ninth in the Division III South/Southeast region in the 1500 meters. He returned on Saturday to finish third overall in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.3, and is currently first in the SAA and 11th in the region in that event.

It marked the third time this season that a member of the Stormy Petrels earned an SAA weekly honor, after freshman Hayden Guthrie and sophomore Jacob Hadden both accomplished the feat in March.

It also marked the second career track and field weekly honor for Meade after he earned SAA Track Athlete of the Week accolades on April 11, 2018.

Meade and the rest of the Petrels will be back in action Friday when they travel to Sewanee, Tennessee, for the Mountain Laurel Twilight Invitational. After that, they'll get ready for the SAA Track and Field Championships April 26 and 27 in Conway, Arkansas.
