Freshman Bryce McNealy and sophomore Jake Hadden both earned NCAA Division III outdoor track and field All-South/Southeast Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Sunday night. The Oglethorpe men's track and field program has now placed three athletes on the All-Region list over the last two seasons. This marked the first career regional track accolades for both McNealy and Hadden.
McNealy earned his honor in the 400 meters. He posted a season-best time of 48.06 seconds in the event on May 10 at the Falcon Finale in Montevallo, Alabama. That tied him for the 14th-best mark in all of Division III, was the best 400-meter time in the nation by a freshman, and qualified him for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the event. It was the fifth-best time in the South/Southeast region over the course of the season.
Hadden took his All-Region accolade in the steeplechase. He posted his season-best time March 29 at the Emory Classic, completing the race's 3,000 meters in 9 minutes, 24.3 seconds. It served as the third-best time in the South/Southeast region over the course of the season.
The top five individuals in each event in each region earned All-Region accolades, totaling 951 athletes on the men's side in 2019.
McNealy will compete in the national meet at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio, Friday and Saturday. He'll run in the preliminary heats starting Friday at 3:15 p.m. If he qualifies for the event final, he'll run in that event Saturday at 1:20 p.m.
