Women Top Scotties, Grab First Victory

The women's basketball team earned their first victory of the season on Wednesday night by topping Agnes Scott in Decatur, 71-55. The Petrels led the Scotties from wire-to-wire to give interim head coach Fallon Rehmert her first coaching victory.

The Petrels broke out on top with a 12-5 run to start the game and never looked back. After owning a 34-28 halftime lead, Oglethorpe would stretch the lead all the way to 17 points in the second half. The Scottie made one spirited run to cut the lead back down to 6 but the Petrels responded to close out a double-digit win.

Sophomore forward Sarah Giles spearheaded a Petrel attack that held the Scotties to a woeful 24% shooting night (16 of 68). Giles notched 18 points on 9 of 20 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. Junior Katie Weeks posted team-highs in points with 19 and rebounds with 13 to help lift the Petrels while senior Chelsea MacDonald posted 8 points and 10 boards.

Oglethorpe out-rebounded Agnes Scott 57-40 in the impressive victory.

The Petrels are now 1-4 on the season and will brace for the beginnning of conference play this Saturday when they face Sewanee at 4:00 p.m. on Pinholster Court.
