The women's basketball team notched a big road victory on Friday by topping Rhodes College in Memphis, 81-74. The Petrels are now 2-0 in SCAC play.
Oglethorpe jumped on the Lynx from the start and built up a double-digit 42-31 lead at the half. Though Rhodes narrowed the gap on several occasions in the second stanza, the Petrels used good ball movement (22 assists versus 15 turnovers) and deadly three point shooting (12 of 19, 63%) to earn the hard fought road conference victory.
Kelley Reeves led five Petrels in double-figures with 16 points on 6 of 10 shooting to go along with 6 assists. Sarah Jones turned in her finest perfomance of the year by connecting on 4 of 5 from downtown on her way to 14 points while senior Chelsea MacDonald netted 12 points and 8 rebounds. Sarah Giles had 11 points and 6 rebounds and Katie Weeks tallied 10 points. Oglethorpe also got steady point guard play from Morgan Loughrey with 7 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
The Petrels are now 3-7 on the season but 2-0 in SCAC play. The team is back in action on Sunday at Birmingham-Southern.
