Scots Hand Lady Petrels First Loss

The women's basketball team lost to Maryville College in Tennessee on Saturday evening, 61-50. The Petrels hung around the Scots and only trailed by three at the break, but could not mount a second half rally en route to their first loss of the 2011-12 season.

Both teams shot an identical 8-of-23 (38%) from the field in the first half and Maryville headed into halftime holding a 24-21 advantage. The place Oglethorpe struggled on the night was the rebounding department, where the Scots held an overwhelming 44-19 advantage, including snaring 16 offensive boards.

Mareva Bone led Oglethorpe with 10 points on the night while Sarah Giles added 6 points, 7 rebounds and two blocks in the loss.

The Petrels are back in action next Saturday when they host Piedmont on Pinholster Court at 4:00 p.m.
