The Oglethorpe women's basketball team fell to 3-13 on the season, 1-4 in SAA play, losing to Centre, 68-51, Friday night in Danville, Ky.
The Lady Petrels and Colonels fought back and forth throughout the entire first half, which ended with Centre holding a 36-33 lead. In fact, Oglethorpe held a six-point lead, 18-12, with 12:01 remaining in the first half. But with a very quick 11-0 run, Centre turned the game around and took a five-point lead just two minutes later. From there, the two teams traded baskets and the lead for the remainder of the half.
In the second half, Centre pulled away almost immediately. They began the half with a 16-2 run and had a 17-point lead, a tie for their largest of the game, with 13:48 remaining. From there, the closest Oglethorpe was able to get was back to within 13 points, and Centre easily cruised home for the 17-point win, 68-51.
The Lady Petrels shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, but only 28 percent in the second half. Meanwhile, Centre shot 35 percent in the first half and 50 percent in the second. From 3-point range, Oglethorpe shot 40 percent in the first half and 20 percent in the second. Centre shot 39 percent in the first and 46 percent in the second.
The Lady Petrels will continue their road trip on Sunday, when they will take on Sewanee at 2 p.m. Eastern time.
