The Oglethorpe women's basketball team hit the road Monday evening for a non-conference game against Judson in Marion, Alabama, and came away with a comprehensive 74-45 victory over the homestanding Eagles. The victory improves the Stormy Petrels to 9-10 on the season.
The Petrels were led by sophomore guard Rebecca Spry, who scored a career-high 17 points on 6 of 12 from the field and 4 of 9 from 3-point range. Senior forward Ali Bleckley contributed 13 points of her own, as well, on 5 of 8 from the field.
As a team, the Petrels forced Judson into 25 turnovers while outrebounding them significantly, beating them 46-29 on the boards.
"I'm pleased with how tonight went," said Oglethorpe head coach Alex Richey. "We got a bunch of players some great experience, plus it's always good when you can win a road game on short rest. We did a great job responding to the short rest situation and our group played hard for 40 minutes, which is what we look for every time out. I was very happy with the contributions we got tonight from Ali Bleckley and Rebecca Spry and the leadership we got from both of them, as well."
The Petrels will now get set to continue their run through the Southern Athletic Association schedule this weekend. They'll host Rhodes at 6 p.m. Friday on Senior Night, then take on Hendrix Sunday at noon in their final home game of the regular season.
