    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team fell victim to a tough shooting day Sunday in the SAA Tournament championship game at the Hangar Dome in Jackson, Mississippi. They shot just 24.2 percent from the field and were 2-of-25 from 3-point range en route to a 56-41 defeat to the fourth-seeded Rhodes Lynx. The loss dropped the second-seeded Stormy Petrels to 22-6 on the season and put them in danger of missing the NCAA tournament.
  • Women's basketball advances to SAA championship game for second straight season

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team advanced to their second straight SAA championship game Saturday night with a comprehensive 54-35 victory over the sixth-seeded Centre Colonels at the Hangar Dome in Jackson, Mississippi. The win means that the second-seeded Stormy Petrels will play for their second straight SAA championship on Sunday. It also secured their 22nd win of the season, marking the most for the program since 2008-09.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team got their SAA Tournament started Friday and the Stormy Petrels got out of the gate in a positive fashion, controlling the proceedings throughout in a 61-56 victory over No. 7 seed Sewanee in the first-round matchup between the two teams in Jackson, Mississippi. The Petrels advance to Saturday's semifinal round with the victory.

    Senior forward Lauren Ransom of the Oglethorpe women's basketball team won the final SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week award of the season Monday, marking her second consecutive win and the third of her career. As the regular season comes to a close, the Stormy Petrels took the SAA weekly award for women's basketball five times over the course of the 2018-19 campaign, with sophomore center Savannah LeGate taking the other three.

The Stormy Petrels held Centre under 40 percent from the field and under 30 percent from 3-point range while shooting 47.4 percent from the field themselves, improving to 18-5 overall and 9-3 in SAA play as a result. The win also maintained the Petrels alone in second place in the league standings.

The victory improved the Petrels to 11-2 on the year overall and 2-0 in SAA play.

    Sophomore Savannah LeGate of the Oglethorpe women's basketball team was named the SAA Player of the Week by the league office Monday for the third time in 2018-19 and the second time in December. The Stormy Petrel center led the team to victories over Calvin and North Park in late December.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team got a tough game from the North Park Vikings Saturday afternoon at Dorough Field House, as the visitors held the Stormy Petrels to just 27.9 percent from the field overall and 4-for-23 from 3-point range. The Petrels prevailed in the end, though, toughing out a 50-47 win to improve to 10-2 on the season.
