  • Lauren Ransom wins SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week award

    Oglethorpe senior forward Lauren Ransom has been named the SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week by the league office for her outstanding performance in the Stormy Petrels' road sweep of Centre and Sewanee over the weekend. It marked the second weekly award of Ransom's career and the third time that a member of the time won the award during the 2018-19 season.
  • Women's basketball recovers from early deficit to best Sewanee 69-56

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team bounced back from a 13-point deficit late in the first quarter Sunday afternoon in Sewanee, Tennessee, outscoring the homestanding Sewanee Tigers 60-35 over the final three quarters en route to a 69-56 victory. With the win, the Stormy Petrels improved to 19-5 on the year overall and 10-3 in SAA play.
  • Women's basketball shuts down Centre 53-43

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team used an outstanding defensive performance and a solid offensive effort to knock off the Centre Colonels 53-43 Friday evening in Danville, Kentucky. The Stormy Petrels held Centre under 40 percent from the field and under 30 percent from 3-point range while shooting 47.4 percent from the field themselves, improving to 18-5 overall and 9-3 in SAA play as a result. The win also maintained the Petrels alone in second place in the league standings.
  • Women's basketball falls to Millsaps 56-54 after late Majors rally

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team suffered a tough loss Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House, falling to the visiting Millsaps Majors 56-54 after leading by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 17-5 on the season overall and 8-3 in SAA play, putting them in second place on the league leaderboard.

The Stormy Petrels improved to 17-4 overall and 8-2 in league play.
  • Women's basketball breaks into coaches' top 25

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team moved into the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III top 25 this week, marking their first national ranking since the end of the 2008-09 season. The Stormy Petrels entered the poll on Tuesday tied for 25th.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team delivered a complete performance Sunday at Dorough Field House, leading wire to wire in a 72-37 win over the visiting Hendrix Warriors. With the win, the Stormy Petrels improved to 16-4 overall and 7-2 in SAA play, maintaining sole possession of second place.

The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 15-4 on the season overall and 6-2 in SAA play, putting them in second place in the league standings by themselves
  • Women's basketball too much for Hendrix, pulls away to 68-47 win

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team led for most of the game Sunday afternoon en route to a 68-47 victory over the Hendrix Warriors in Conway, Arkansas. The win improved the Stormy Petrels to 14-4 on the season overall and 5-2 in SAA play, maintaining a tie for second place in the league.
  • Women's basketball drops road contest to Rhodes 56-45

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team fell to the homestanding Rhodes Lynx 56-45 Friday night in Memphis, Tennessee. Rhodes outscored the Stormy Petrels 35-18 over the middle two quarters en route to the 11-point win, which dropped Oglethorpe to 13-4 on the season overall and 4-2 in SAA play and put them back in second place in the league.
  • Women's basketball runs away from Sewanee 73-48

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team bounced back from their shooting slump in a big way Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House, sinking over half their shots from the field in the first half en route to a 73-48 victory over the Sewanee Tigers. The win, coupled with a Rhodes victory over Millsaps in Memphis, Tennessee, moved the Stormy Petrels into a first-place tie with the Majors at 4-1 in SAA play. It also improved the Petrels to 13-3 on the season overall.
  • Women's basketball uses smothering defense to beat Centre 39-32
    January 11, 2019
    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team used lock-down defense to defeat the visiting Centre Colonels 39-32 Friday night at Dorough Field House. The Stormy Petrels held the visitors to just 22.2 percent shooting from the field overall and 5-of-21 from 3-point range en route to the victory, which improved them to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in SAA play.
  • Women's basketball suffers first conference loss at Millsaps, Ransom eclipses 1,000 career points

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team was dealt their first loss of the season Sunday afternoon in Jackson, Mississippi, as they fell 66-57 to the homestanding Millsaps Majors in the Hangar Dome. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 11-3 overall and 2-1 in SAA play.

The Stormy Petrels jumped all over the homestanding Birmingham-Southern Panthers in the first half, leading them 37-14 at the break en route to a 65-48 win at Bill Battle Coliseum. The victory improved the Petrels to 11-2 on the year overall and 2-0 in SAA play.
  • Savannah LeGate wins third SAA Player of the Week award of season

    Sophomore Savannah LeGate of the Oglethorpe women's basketball team was named the SAA Player of the Week by the league office Monday for the third time in 2018-19 and the second time in December. The Stormy Petrel center led the team to victories over Calvin and North Park in late December.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team got a tough game from the North Park Vikings Saturday afternoon at Dorough Field House, as the visitors held the Stormy Petrels to just 27.9 percent from the field overall and 4-for-23 from 3-point range. The Petrels prevailed in the end, though, toughing out a 50-47 win to improve to 10-2 on the season.
  • Women's basketball closes Quality Suites Holiday Classic with 25-point win over Calvin

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team closed out its Quality Suites Holiday Classic with a comprehensive 73-48 victory over Calvin Friday afternoon at Dorough Field House. The Stormy Petrels outplayed the Knights in every phase of the game and improved to 9-2 on the season as a result.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team hung in for the first three quarters Thursday evening against No. 5 Hope at the Quality Suites Holiday Classic in Dorough Field House, but the visiting Flying Dutch pulled away by outscoring the Stormy Petrels 19-7 in the fourth quarter en route to a 64-46 win. The loss dropped the Petrels to 8-2 on the season.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team struggled on the offensive end for the second straight game Sunday, but for the second straight game, they used outstanding defense and rebounding to defeat their opponent. This time, they earned a 47-42 victory over the Guilford Quakers Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House, improving to 8-1 on the season.
  • Savannah LeGate earns second SAA weekly honor of season

    Oglethorpe sophomore center Savannah LeGate received another weekly recognition from the SAA league office on Monday, earning the SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week award for the second time this season and for the second straight week in which the Stormy Petrels were active.
  • Women's basketball overcomes poor shooting night to knock off Berry in SAA opener

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team found themselves mired in a shooting slump for much of the evening Friday, but they used outstanding defense to hold down the homestanding Berry Vikings and eventually pulled away for a 52-39 win at the Cage Center in Mount Berry, Georgia, to open their conference slate.

  • Women's basketball blows out LaGrange, sweeps USA South/SAA Classic

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team cruised to victory over the homestanding LaGrange Panthers Sunday afternoon at the USA South/SAA Classic, improving to 6-1 on the season. The Stormy Petrels outscored LaGrange 41-8 in the first half, shooting 46.7 percent over the opening 30 minutes while holding the Panthers to just 3-for-19 from the field during that time.
  • Women's basketball hangs on for 81-72 win over Piedmont at USA South/SAA Classic
    November 24, 2018
    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team used an outstanding first half to grab a big lead on the Piedmont Lions Saturday in LaGrange, Georgia. The Stormy Petrels led 48-33 at the break then held on as Piedmont went on a big run and cut the Oglethorpe advantage to as little as seven in the second half. They were able to do enough to keep the Lions at arm's length, though, and came away with an 81-72 win to start their weekend at the USA South/SAA Classic and improve to 5-1 on the season.
  • Women's basketball outlasts Covenant, pulls away late for 71-59 win
    November 20, 2018
    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team found itself in a fight Tuesday evening against the homestanding Covenant Scots, falling behind by as many as eight points in the second quarter and six points in the third. The Stormy Petrels fought back, though, and outscored the home side 22-12 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 71-59 win at the Barnes PE Center in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
  • Women's basketball suffers first loss of season, falls 79-64 to Mary Hardin-Baylor

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team picked up their first loss of the season Sunday afternoon against Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Stormy Petrels couldn't withstand a poor shooting day and trailed by as many as 16 en route to a 79-64 defeat on the final day of the Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic in Birmingham, Alabama. The team fell to 3-1 on the young season.
  • Women's basketball starts Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic with 70-56 win over Rose-Hulman

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team got their second solid win away from home in six days Saturday, beating a Rose-Hulman team that made the NCAA tournament in 2017-18 to kick off their stay at the Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic in Birmingham, Alabama. The Stormy Petrels used a 23-12 first-quarter advantage and outstanding shooting over the course of the game to cruise to the 70-56 victory over the Engineers and improve to 3-0 on the young season.
