The SAA office named Oglethorpe sophomore center Savannah LeGate the SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. It marked the second career SAA weekly award for LeGate and her first of the 2018-19 season.
LeGate proved instrumental in the team's victories over Piedmont, Covenant and LaGrange over the course of the week. She averaged 18.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game over the week while shooting 50 percent from the field. She helped her team to a 71-59 win over Covenant on Tuesday with 18 points and seven boards, then followed that up with a 28-point, 12-rebound performance in an 81-72 victory over Piedmont.
For the season, LeGate sits third in the SAA in blocks with 1.4 per game and third in offensive rebounding with 3.3 per contest. She also leads the league in baskets with 41 and is second in points with 106.
LeGate and the rest of the 6-1 Stormy Petrels will take a week off from game action before returning to the court for their SAA opener against Berry in Mount Berry, Georgia, at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7.
